Greenwich Council's Planning Board has deferred a decision on a significant development proposal for the former Lewisham College site at 1 Deptford Bridge, London, SE8 4HH. The board voted unanimously to postpone any determination on the application, which seeks Full Planning Permission for a cross-borough project with Lewisham Council (reference: DC/25/139390).
The proposed development involves the demolition of the existing building and the construction of new structures ranging from 1 to 30 storeys. These buildings are intended for a mix of uses, including residential (Class C3), Class E commercial spaces, local community facilities (Class F2), educational purposes (Class F1), and drinking establishments (Sui Generis). The plans also include associated cycle parking, landscaping, highway improvements, and other ancillary works. This application is classified as EIA development and is accompanied by an Environmental Statement.

Councillor Jeremy Fraser, Chair of Planning, stated that he wished to have a complete picture of the application once Lewisham Council had made its determination
before making a decision. This indicates that the outcome of Lewisham Council's decision will directly inform Greenwich Council's eventual determination.
Officers had noted that deferring the decision could lead to an appeal on grounds of non-determination, which might have cost implications for the Council. However, specific grounds for appeal beyond non-determination and estimated cost implications were not detailed in the meeting information. Despite these potential risks, the board opted for deferral.
