Merton Council is aiming for 50% of new homes at the Britannia Point development to be affordable, according to a recent council meeting. The council also confirmed they have not met with the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) regarding land convenants.
The announcement came in response to a public question posed to Councillor Andrew Judge, Cabinet Member for Housing and Sustainable Development, regarding the number of new houses he would support at the land south of Britannia Point. Councillor Judge stated that the site at Britannia Point can develop up to 150-220 new homes, depending on the design of the building. Of these homes, 50% should be affordable, helping to support households on the council's waiting list.
The discussion highlights the council's focus on addressing housing needs within the borough, as detailed in the Public Questions and Replies 9 July document. The exchange took place during the Council Meeting on 9 July 2025.
