The City Belonging Project has announced an expansion, actively seeking engagement from businesses to foster a more inclusive environment within the Square Mile.

The City of London Corporation's Equity, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Sub-Committee meeting on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, provided an update on the City Belonging Project, highlighting its growth and ongoing initiatives.

The project, which aims to foster a sense of belonging across various community networks, has seen a significant increase in sign-ups to its Black in the Square Mile network. Mark Gettleson, a representative for Campaigns and Community Engagement, reported that the project now encompasses approximately a dozen community networks in various stages of development.

Business Engagement

A key development is the City Belonging Champions programme, launched in collaboration with Deutsche Bank. This initiative aims to establish a named individual within businesses who will be responsible for community engagement, thereby creating a direct point of contact for fostering inclusivity.

The City Belonging Project continues to grow, with a significant increase in sign-ups to the 'Black in the Square Mile' network, Gettleson stated during the meeting. He further elaborated on the project's focus on managing growth and ensuring staff can benefit from the wider ecosystem.

The expansion of the City Belonging Project signifies a concerted effort to embed inclusivity and community engagement across the City of London.
