Kingston Councillors Join LGPS Scheme with Immaterial Impact on Liabilities

Eleven Kingston councillors have opted into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) since it became available on an opt-in basis from May 11, 2026. This development has been confirmed to have an immaterial impact on the Fund's liabilities.

Tom Taylor, Head of Pensions Administration, informed stakeholders that while the addition of these elected members to the scheme will affect the Fund's liabilities, this impact is considered immaterial when weighed against the overall size of the pension fund. He also confirmed that elected members can continue to access the scheme, indicating that this is not a one-time offer.

This update was discussed at the Pension Board meeting on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, as detailed in the Public reports pack.
