Rear roof extensions at Hazel House, Royston House, Suffolk House and Norfolk House on Sulgrave Road have been given the go-ahead by Hammersmith and Fulham Council's Planning and Development Control Committee.
The committee approved the applications for the properties, which will see the ridge height increased by 300mm to create new self-contained studio flats. The plans also include alterations to the roof of the back addition to create a small flat roof and terrace with screening.
Neil Egerton, team leader, explained to the committee, chaired by Councillor Nikos Souslous, that the applications were for similar schemes to those already developed in the area, and that rear roof extensions are a common feature within the street. He added that conditions would require enhanced sound insulation between the existing flats and the new proposal, and that fire lobbies would be created at first and second floor levels.
Councillor Patrick Walsh stated that the application seemed entirely in keeping with what's been developed in the existing area. Councillor Jackie Borland asked about the square footage of the studios. Mr Egerton responded that the studios are small units, but that the planning inspectorate have previously considered them to provide reasonable quality of accommodation.
