City of London Police to Implement New SAP Payroll System with Pensioner Self-Service

City of London Police pensioners will soon be able to manage their pension details online as a new SAP payroll system is rolled out, a move expected to enhance efficiency and provide greater convenience.

The City of London Police Pensions Board met on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, to discuss the ongoing administration of the police pension scheme. A key update provided by Graham Newman, Pensions Manager for the Chamberlain's Department, highlighted significant progress in the implementation of a new SAP payroll system. The system is currently undergoing User Acceptance Testing (UAT), with the pensioner self-service functionality expected to be available once the system goes live, though an exact rollout timeline is yet to be specified.

This new system will introduce a pensioner self-service function, allowing members to access their payslips and update their personal and bank details online. This functionality is anticipated to become the preferred method for pensioner members, suggesting potential efficiency gains.

The SAP system will also facilitate a new monthly data upload process from SAP to the existing pensions administration system, Altair. This is expected to improve data accuracy and streamline year-end validation processes, reducing efforts in this area.

For current police officers who are not yet pensioners, the new SAP system's standard procedure involves assessing the applicable contribution band on a monthly basis. This could lead to changes in their contribution band from month to month if their pensionable pay varies.

Further details on the meeting, including the agenda and draft minutes, can be found in the Public reports pack and minutes draft respectively.
