Hammersmith and Fulham Council renews Armed Forces Covenant Pledge
Hammersmith and Fulham Council has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its armed forces community by renewing its pledge to the Armed Forces Covenant. The council formally renewed its commitment at a Full Council meeting on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, recognising the sacrifices made by serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families.
The renewed pledge aims to ensure that no member of the armed forces community faces disadvantage when accessing council services. To achieve this, the council commits to maintaining and developing practical support, strengthening engagement with the armed forces community, and working with partners to ensure veterans and their families can access necessary help and information.
Hammersmith and Fulham already offers a range of support, including affordable and adapted housing. Furthermore, eligible veterans can benefit from a 25% council tax reduction, provided they hold a qualifying HM Armed Forces Veteran card for the 2026-27 billing period.
Councillor Rowan Ree, Cabinet Member for Finance and Reform, highlighted the council's existing support, including housing priority for former service members and the unique 25% council tax discount. He noted that the council is committed to maintaining and developing practical support beyond these measures, alongside strengthening engagement and collaborating with partners.
To bolster engagement, the council plans to work with cadet forces, participate in Remembrance events and homecoming parades, and recognise the Royal Yeomanry and other regiments with connections to the borough. The council will also collaborate with partners including the Royal British Legion, the Veterans' Gateway, and local Armed Forces charities to ensure veterans, families, and carers can easily access the help and information they need.
Councillor Callum Nimmo, Deputy Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness and Borough Representative for the Armed Forces Community, conveyed thanks from the Korean community and British veterans of the Korean War for the borough's hospitality during their annual celebrations.
The council also values military reservists within its workforce and participates in civic and military ceremonies.
