Liberal Democrats Gain Carshalton Seat in By-Election; Sutton Council Acknowledges Outcome

Following a by-election held on 22 May 2025, Lisa Webster of the Liberal Democrats has gained a seat in the Carshalton South and Clockhouse ward.

The Sutton Council convened on 14 July 2025, where they formally acknowledged the outcome of the by-election. According to the Outcome of By-Election Report, this change does not impact the overall allocation of seats within the council. This means that Ms. Webster's election aligns with the previous political representation in the ward, maintaining the existing balance.

The Liberal Democrats currently hold a majority of seats on the council with 29 out of 55 seats (52.73%). The report on the outcome of the by-election states that there is no impact on the allocation of seats, suggesting that the existing majority is maintained. Therefore, the likelihood of significant policy changes within the Sutton Council following this by-election is low, as the Liberal Democrats retain their majority.
