Croydon Council has approved a public petition calling for plant-based food and drink options at council events, marking a step towards promoting sustainable and ethical food choices within the borough.
The council debated the petition, which requested that all food and drink provided at internal meetings and events be 100% plant-based, prioritising seasonal British produce. The petition also asked the council to promote plant-based eating to residents and remove meat and dairy advertising where the council has an influence.
The decision was made at the Croydon Council meeting on 16 July 2025. The council also addressed concerns about school safety patrols, fly-tipping, housing repairs and community safety. Councillors also discussed the council's financial challenges, the Mayor of London's policies and climate change initiatives. Additionally, they approved changes to the constitution regarding tender and contract regulations and noted the Health and Wellbeing Board Annual Report.
The full minutes of the meeting are available on the Croydon Council website.
