Croydon Council is set to incorporate climate change risks into its risk assessments, plans, and policy documents. The council's commitment follows a recent council meeting and public inquiries about integrating climate change considerations into its strategic framework.
The council has confirmed that its Climate Action Plan includes a commitment to conduct a borough-wide climate risk assessment and to review and update council policies to reflect both climate adaptation and emissions mitigation as they come up for revision. The Medium-Term Financial Strategy also recognises the financial implications of addressing climate change and identifies it as a financial risk.
As part of its Climate Action Plan, the council aims to boost climate literacy among staff and councillors. To achieve this, the council is offering Climate Fresk workshops monthly, excluding August and December. An adaptation workshop based on the Fresk model has also been introduced. One officer has been trained to deliver these workshops in-house to build internal capacity.
The council's response was part of a broader discussion during the meeting on 16 July 2025, where various public questions were addressed. The council acknowledged the importance of climate literacy, noting that the climate action plan includes an action item of encouraging staff and Councillors to participate in climate literacy.
