Fulham Broadway is set to welcome a new Aldi supermarket that will sell alcohol, but with restrictions in place during Chelsea Football Club matches. The Hammersmith and Fulham Licensing Sub-Committee convened on Tuesday 15 July 2025, to discuss the application, ultimately agreeing to grant the license with conditions.
The Metropolitan Police and local neighbourhood watch groups initially raised concerns regarding the prevention of crime and disorder, leading to the addition of conditions to the license to promote the licensing objectives. The Tournay Road Neighbourhood Watch and Barclay Road Conservation Area Neighbourhood Watch also voiced concerns, resulting in Aldi proposing further changes to their application.
The store, located at Unit 12, Fulham Broadway Retail Centre, initially sought to sell alcohol from 06:00 to 00:00, but revised its hours to 07:00 to 23:00 following community feedback. The public reports pack and supplementary agenda, including a revised premises licence plan, detail the conditions agreed upon.

To address concerns raised by the Metropolitan Police and local neighbourhood watch groups, Aldi agreed to several conditions, including:
- No alcohol sales in glass containers three hours before Chelsea Football Club home matches at Stamford Bridge. This excludes regular customers not attending the match and those buying food or non-alcoholic items.
- Aldi has not specified how they will differentiate between regular customers and other customers.
- Advising all alcohol purchasers about the Controlled Drinking Zone and requesting they not gather outside the premises.
- Cessation of alcohol sales if requested by a police officer.
- Avoiding stacking alcohol near entrances/exits and employing senior staff and security to monitor customers.
- Employing Security Industry Authority (SIA) staff to assist staff and maintain order on match days.
Further changes were proposed following concerns from the Tournay Road Neighbourhood Watch and Barclay Road Conservation Area Neighbourhood Watch:
- Alcohol would only be sold on the basement floor. This decision was made in response to concerns raised by the Tournay Road Neighbourhood Watch and Barclay Road Conservation Area Neighbourhood Watch.
- All spirits would be displayed in a lockable cabinet inaccessible to the public.
- Alcohol would not be sold or displayed on the ground floor.
Representations objecting to the application were received from the Walham Green Ward Panel, Barclay Road Conservation Area Neighbourhood Watch, Tournay Road Neighbourhood Watch, Fulham Island Residents Association, and three individual residents. These objectors were notified of the additional conditions and reduced hours.
The Licensing Sub-Committee, including Councillor Mercy Umeh (Chair of Licensing Committee), Councillor Callum Nimmo, and Councillor Aliya Afzal-Khan (Opposition Deputy Whip), considered the application in light of the council's statement of licensing policy, which aims to balance a sustainable licensed sector with community safety and well-being.
It was also noted that the applicant initially applied for late night refreshment for Fishy Delishy, but this was later removed following discussions with the Metropolitan Police.
