Bexley is set to significantly expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with the installation of 90 new charging points across the borough. The 90 additional charging points are in the process of being installed.
The move aims to support the growing number of EV drivers and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles by providing convenient and accessible charging options.
The new charging points will be installed on streets in clusters of six to 10 units by Trojan Energy. According to the Transport Users' Sub-Committee meeting documents from 17 July 20251, these units will fit flush to the footway surface, requiring users to use a post/lance unit to connect their charging cable.
In addition to the Trojan Energy project, Bexley has issued a joint bid for government funding under the LEVI bidding system and has been earmarked to be in the Tranche 2 round of funding for next year. This funding is focused on residential-based charge point provision, where access to off-highway power is difficult for users.
The council is also exploring an agreement with a provider for charge points in a further six car parks, some Ultra Rapid units in similar sites and possibly to replace the discontinued BP Pulse 12 sites.
The council has already installed approximately 100 standard power lamp column units operated by Ubitricity on-street, and 46 standard power charging points in car parks operated by Blink.
The expansion of EV charging infrastructure aligns with Bexley's broader efforts to promote sustainable transportation and improve air quality.
