Waste collection in Barking and Dagenham is currently experiencing disruptions, specifically affecting recycling waste collection. Councillor Dominic Twomey, Leader of the Council / Labour Group, has addressed the issue, citing unspecified operational issues
as the cause.
During his Leader's Statement at the Barking and Dagenham Assembly meeting on Wednesday 23 July 2025, as detailed in the agenda, Councillor Twomey assured residents that the team is working to rectify the situation and co-ordinate collections to get back on schedule.
Our waste collection at the present has been having some issues... due to operational issues,
Councillor Twomey said. The waste collections are currently a little bit behind
schedule.
He acknowledged the inconvenience caused to residents and expressed confidence that collections would be back on schedule by the end of the month.
We're still a little bit behind, but as I said, working very hard to coordinate collections and get back on schedule, which I'd like to think we will be by the end of the month,
Councillor Twomey added. And I know a huge amount of hard work's going into that, so I'd like to thank the service for all of that hard work and our public for their patience until this is carried out.
