Residents of Aubert Park have voiced their objections to a new restaurant's application for an alcohol licence, raising concerns about potential public nuisance and crime. The Islington Licensing Sub Committee C convened on 22 July 2025, to discuss the application for SUD Italia, located at 72 Aubert Park, N5 1TS.

The application seeks permission for the sale of alcohol, both for consumption on and off the premises, from 11:00 to 22:00, Monday to Sunday. The proposed opening hours are also 11:00 to 22:00, Monday to Sunday.

According to the Public Reports Pack for the meeting, five representations from local residents were received regarding the application. The applicant agreed to incorporate recommendations from the police and the council's pollution team into the operating schedule, leading to the withdrawal of their representations. However, resident concerns remain.

One local resident objected on the grounds of:

  • The prevention of public nuisance
  • The prevention of crime & disorder

Another local resident raised concerns about:

  • An increase in noise levels
  • Pollution/littering outside of the property
  • A lack of toilet facilities in the shop, which they believe could lead to public nuisance.

Another local resident objected on the grounds of:

  • The prevention of crime and disorder
  • The prevention of public nuisance
  • Public safety
  • Protection of children from harm

One resident stated that there were already two alcohol outlets and two pub-bars in Drayton Park Road, and that there was increased noise already in the form of loud music coming from the premises, which they argued was evidence to support their claims of increased noise if the license is granted.

The applicant has proposed several steps to promote the four licensing objectives, including:

  • Training staff on licensing laws
  • Enforcing a Challenge 25 policy
  • Installing and operating CCTV cameras
  • Maintaining a refusals log
  • Selling alcohol only in sealed containers for takeaway
  • Complying with all fire safety regulations
  • Monitoring noise levels
  • Conducting regular litter patrols

The Public Reports Pack also noted that the designated premises supervisor had only provided their training records, so the premises would not be able to sell alcohol if the application was granted until a personal licence application number was provided.

The Licensing Sub Committee C, which included Councillor Valerie Bossman-Quarshie, Councillor Joseph Croft, and Councillor James Potts, will consider the application and the representations made before making a decision.
