Enfield Council is in the process of selecting a new Executive Director of Environment & Communities to lead its key environmental and community service initiatives. The Staff Appeals, Appointment and Remuneration Committee convened on Thursday 31 July 2025 to interview candidates for this senior position.
The Executive Director will be responsible for a wide range of services, including waste management, parks, and sustainability initiatives. These services face challenges such as maintaining service quality with limited resources and meeting ambitious sustainability targets.
The agenda for the meeting indicated that detailed reports on the candidates were provided to the committee members. However, these reports contained exempt information relating to individuals, as defined by the Local Government Act 1972, and were not available to the public.
Attendees at the meeting included: Susan Erbil (Cabinet Member for Planning and Regulatory Services), Rick Jewell (Cabinet Member for Transport and Waste), Sabri Ozaydin (Cabinet Member for Environment and Placemaking), Alessandro Georgiou (Leader of the Opposition and Conservative Party), and Edward Smith.
Prior to the interviews, the committee voted to exclude the press and public from the meeting, citing the need to protect the privacy of the candidates, as permitted under Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act 1972.
