Tower Hamlets is actively pursuing outstanding arrears from a tenant leasing property from the King George's Field Trust. The King George's Field Charity Board convened on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, to address the ongoing issue with Tenant A,
who has accumulated historical arrears. The board rejected a proposal from Tenant A to assign their lease and offset their arrears.
According to a report presented to the board, all tenants of the King George's Field Trust retail and rental units are current with their payments, except for Tenant A. The board is responsible for overseeing lease arrangements for these units, as income from them supports the maintenance of park land and amenities for Tower Hamlets residents.
The report noted that Tenant A had previously proposed assigning their lease and using the rental deposit to offset a portion of their arrears. At a meeting on 6 November 2024, the board requested further information regarding this proposal. The board has asked that officers investigate recovering the lease and remarketing it.
To remarket the lease, the board has instructed an external property services company to provide a marketing proposal. Once bids are received, the property agent will review them and provide a recommendation to the board, considering the best value for the Charity. A report detailing the bids will be presented at a future board meeting.
The King George's Field Trust Board is scheduled to meet again on 29 October 2025.
