Crofton Roman Villa is set to undergo a significant transformation thanks to a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant.
The Renewal, Recreation and Housing Policy Development and Scrutiny Committee heard on Thursday that the funding will be used to improve interpretation and visitor experience at the historic site. Ward councillors will have input on the designs for new internal and external murals.
The proposed works, outlined in the meeting agenda, include:
- External façade repairs and replacement of end-of-life materials
- External drainage repairs
- Internal mechanical and electrical refurbishment
- Internal and external finishes and signage
- Internal wheelchair accessible toilet
- New exhibition and interior design
The Crofton Roman Villa, a Scheduled Monument, is recognised as a significant piece of London's Romano-British history and is the only Roman Villa open to the public in London.
The committee noted that the designs for the new internal and external murals will be subject to agreement with ward councillors.
