Islington Council is expanding its Bunhill Heat Network to connect City Forum and Telfor House, adding 1,000 homes to the network.
The expansion was discussed at the Environment, Climate and Transport Scrutiny Committee meeting on Thursday 11 September 2025, where councillors reviewed the Q1/2 report on Net Zero Carbon and Climate Action.
The Bunhill Heat Network is part of Islington's broader strategy to deliver energy infrastructure and reduce carbon emissions. The council is working on realistic scenarios for energy infrastructure delivery, including heat networks, air source heat pumps, retrofit, and transport interventions, which will inform the development of the new Climate Action Plan.
Councillor Rowena Champion, Executive Member for Environment, Air Quality & Transport, highlighted the importance of heat networks as part of the council's strategy. The council is also considering whether to continue developing proposals for a South Islington Heat Network, how to finance it, and how to deliver it, possibly in partnership with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
