Westminster City Council is aiming to get 70% of its pension fund members actively using the member portal. As of July 2025, 53.07% of members were signed up, according to a Pension Administration Update presented at the Pension Board meeting on 8 September 2025.
The council has already met its initial target of 50% access across the fund membership. The focus is now on increasing active membership engagement.
According to the report, Hampshire Pension Services (HPS), which manages the portal, has been working with Westminster City Council staff to encourage registration. Zuzana Fernandes from the internal team offered 1-2-1 sessions for Westminster City Council (WCC) staff in June, July and August 2025 to help them register for the portal and to access their pension information. This has resulted in a further increase in active members registered for the portal. Zuzana has had over 180 sessions with members.
Future efforts will target other employers within the fund, including schools. The council recognises that engaging with school staff may be more complex due to their schedules. The Pension Administration Update states that building in time for 1-2-1 support is not as simple as offering it to WCC staff. To address this, the council will explore options with schools and other employers and hopes to gain support from unions to promote the benefits of engaging with pensions to school staff.
