Hillingdon Council is set to debate its opposition to the expansion of Heathrow Airport at a meeting on 11 September 2025, reaffirming its long-standing stance against the project.

The council will consider a motion, which was ultimately unanimously agreed, reaffirming its opposition to a third runway, citing significant concerns about the environment, public health, and the well-being of residents. The council has previously voted unanimously to oppose plans for a 3rd runway at Heathrow.

The motion, proposed by Councillor Peter Curling, Leader of Hayes Independent Group, highlights the devastating impact that a third runway, at Heathrow airport, would have on our borough and its residents. It also notes the well documented detrimental impact on the environment, as well as the adverse impact on the health and well-being of a significant number of residents within our borough, should a third runway be built and brought into operation.

The motion seeks to reaffirm the council's strong, cross party, opposition to a third runway at Heathrow Airport. The meeting information notes the alteration of the overall political balance of the Council, following the formation of the Hayes Independent Party Group, and approves changes to membership of Council Committees. The full agenda can be found in the Public Reports Pack.
