Hillingdon is set to become the newest member of the West London Economic Prosperity Board (WLEPB), pending a final decision by Hillingdon's cabinet scheduled for September 2025. The board voted to admit the London Borough of Hillingdon as a participating borough at a meeting held on Tuesday, 16 September 2025.

The West London Economic Prosperity Board is a formal joint committee of local authorities, established to advance boroughs' aspirations for economic prosperity in West London. These aspirations include equipping West Londoners with future skills and promoting West London as a global innovation gateway.

The WLEPB was formed following discussions facilitated by the West London Alliance (WLA). The WLEPB consists of the leaders of the constituent councils, currently comprising six of the seven West London Alliance member authorities: Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow and Hounslow. Hillingdon is the seventh member of the WLA and was in the process of joining the WLEPB.

According to the report from the West London Alliance regarding the membership of the West London Economic Prosperity Board and Function and Procedure Rules, the Function and Procedure Rules state that:

When a new borough wishes to become a Participating Borough, then this may be achieved if agreed by a unanimous vote of all the existing Participating Boroughs.

In addition to Hillingdon's prospective membership, the board also voted to adopt proposed updates to the Function and Procedure Rules for the WLEPB. The report stated that the Function and Procedure Rules were last updated in 2016 and have become outdated in some respects, making it an opportune time for minor revisions to ensure that they are up-to-date.

The decision regarding Hillingdon's membership is contingent upon a decision by Hillingdon's cabinet. Agreement of the amended rules is also subject to approval through the appropriate processes within each participating borough.
