Islington Council is set to question Thames Water and Ofwat following a major burst water main that affected over 30 households in Canonbury on 10 August. The incident, which turned a street into a fast-flowing river, trapping residents, has prompted concerns about infrastructure failures and accountability. The council aims to understand what steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future, particularly in light of recent bursts on Wharfdale Road and Tufnell Park Road.
The issue was raised during a council meeting on 18 September, where councillors discussed the matter. Councillor Jeapes raised the issue during questions from members of the council, asking specifically: What is the council doing to hold Thames Water and Ofwat to account and prevent further infrastructure failures, following a major burst water main on 10 August that turned a street in Canonbury into a fast-flowing river, trapping residents and catastrophically affecting over 30 households.
The full discussion can be found in the Public Reports Pack 18th-Sep-2025.
