Enfield Council is considering a motion to exempt blue badge holders from Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) in the borough.

The motion, put forward by Councillor Maria Alexandrou at a recent Enfield Council meeting, calls for a blanket exemption for all blue badge holders from all LTNs within Enfield. Councillor Alexandrou argues that these schemes disproportionately impact blue badge holders, restricting their access and potentially leading to penalty notices.

In the name of equality and fairness, as blue badge holders are impacted more severely by these schemes, they should have access without the fear of penalty notices, Councillor Alexandrou stated in the motion.

The motion also urges the council to engage with disability groups to better understand the challenges they face, particularly regarding public transport and reliance on cars for hospital appointments. Councillor Alexandrou highlighted that Enfield has over 11,700 blue badge holders, and the LTNs are creating hardships that didn't exist before their implementation.

While the motion was considered at the council meeting, a final decision has not yet been made. The council is expected to further review the impact of LTNs on those with mobility issues before making a determination.
