Merton Council has debated a petition against the proposed demolition of the Shannon Corner Service Centre, with the decision on planning application 22/P3479 still under consideration.
The petition, submitted by Councillor John Oliver on behalf of concerned customers, was discussed at the council meeting on 17 September 2025.
The petition, which stated, We the undersigned are customers of Shannon Corner Service Centre Ltd and we vehemently oppose the proposed demolition of the garage. We believe that the garage is a valuable community asset that should be preserved,
relates to planning application 22/P3479.
The council was asked to receive the petition in accordance with Part 4A, paragraph 18.1 of the Council's Constitution and to note the response to the petition submitted at the meeting held on 9 July 2025. The officer's response to the petition, as noted in the Supplementary Agenda 1 - Item 13 - Petitions Report, acknowledged receipt of the petition, stating: Thank you to the councillor and the signatories for submitting this petition. The submitted petition has been received and uploaded to the application (Reference 22/P3479) and is currently under consideration as this application remains live.
The Supplementary Agenda 1 - Item 13 - Petitions Report also stated that details of the petition will be reported in the officer report when the application is determined in due course.
