Lambeth Council is integrating the roles of health and social care director to improve services for adults in the borough.
The move, effective from 1 October 2025, will see the creation of a new Corporate Director Health and Adults Social Care position, combining the duties of the Director of Adult Social Care with the strategic responsibilities of the NHS ICB Executive Place Director for Lambeth. This integration aims to ensure that the needs of both health and social care are equally prioritised.
The Corporate Director Health and Adults Social Care is expected to ensure the effective planning and delivery of place-based services to meet the needs of Lambeth residents, with a specific focus on community-based care and integration across primary care, community services and social care.
The Appointments Sub-Committee met on 19 September 2025, to discuss the appointment to the post, which is part of a wider senior management restructure aimed at cutting the number of senior management posts by 20% and reducing the number of directorates from 7 to 5. The new senior management structure, consisting of five Corporate Director roles, will be in place from 1 October 2025, with four of the roles being recruited to on a permanent basis. This restructure is expected to save the council around £1 million.
The Corporate Director Health and Adults Social Care will be responsible for leading and managing services relating to adults and health across the borough, ensuring the effective planning and delivery of place-based services, contributing to the wider objectives of the Integrated Care System (ICS), and leading the Lambeth Local Care Partnership (LCP).
The role will also ensure the council discharges its legal responsibilities under The Care Act 2014, The Mental Capacity Act 2005, and the Mental Health Act 2007.
The Public Reports Pack for the meeting noted that the council received two applications for the Corporate Director Integrated Care Board & Adults role. The Appointments Sub-Committee was scheduled to interview candidates between 15 and 25 September 2025.
The Public Reports Pack also included a job description and person specification for the Corporate Director Health and Adults Social Care role. The job purpose was described as combining the duties of the Director of Adult Social Care with the strategic responsibilities of the NHS ICB Executive Place Director for Lambeth.
