The resurfacing of the Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) behind the Old Oak Family Hub will be delayed until late September, according to a Wormwood Scrubs Charitable Trust Committee meeting. The delay is due to significant damage to the sub-base, which became clear once the shockpad was removed. The roots of surrounding vegetation had pushed up through the foundations, making resurfacing unsafe. This necessitated an additional £26,000 to excavate and re-lay the concrete. The committee approved an initial £40,000 budget for the project.
Osama El-Amin, Charitable Trust Manager, explained that the works were postponed to avoid disruption to the summer holiday camp operating out of the Old Oak Family Hub. To limit disruption to local residents and users of Wormwood Scrubs, the works are now scheduled to commence at the end of September and are expected to take up to two weeks to complete, prior to the October half-term.
In addition to the resurfacing, CCTV will be installed in the corner of the MUGA, and a code lock will be added to further secure the facility.
The Wormwood Scrubs Charitable Trust Committee convened on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, to discuss the manager's report and other matters related to Wormwood Scrubs. These 'other matters' included updates on the AEM Master Plan Procurement and Implementation Programme, the planned diversion of Old Oak Common Lane via the HS2 UTX site, a UKPN 7-Year Lease Extension, decommissioning the KAA2 site, grounds maintenance, green infrastructure funding, the Linford Christie Outdoor Sports Stadium scheme, the Braebrook Play Area Improvement Scheme, community safety, and the trust's financial performance.
