Southwark Council is set to update the carbon footprint of its pension fund, as scheduled for discussion at the Pensions Advisory Panel meeting on Tuesday, 23 September 2025. The update is part of the council's ongoing commitment to responsible investment and reducing the environmental impact of its investments. The meeting will also likely address strategies to reduce the fund's carbon footprint, such as divestment, engagement with companies, and impact investing, as well as the council's broader definition of responsible investment and other ESG (environmental, social, and governance) factors considered beyond carbon emissions.
The agenda for the meeting, chaired by Councillor Stephanie Cryan, Cabinet Member for Equalities, Democracy and Finance, includes a dedicated item for the carbon footprint update. Other panel members include Councillor Rachel Bentley and Councillor Emily Hickson.
The meeting will also cover a range of other topics related to the pension fund's management and performance. These include an asset allocation update, a quarterly investment update presented by David Cullinan from Aon, a responsible investment general update, and a refresh of the pension fund's cash management policy. The panel will also discuss voting and engagement activity and the Stewardship Code.
Further updates will be provided as the meeting progresses.
