New Malden residents can look forward to a Christmas celebration in Jubilee Square, thanks to a £3,000 Neighbourhood Community Grant awarded to the New Malden Town Centre Partnership (NMTCP). The New and Old Malden Neighbourhood Committee approved the grant at their meeting on Tuesday 7 October 2025.

The NMTCP aims to work with the local community, businesses, and the council to promote the town centre, reflecting the area's cultural diversity and interests. The Jubilee Square party aims to reflect this diversity with multicultural food stalls, community group stalls and gift stalls. A large number of local community groups are expected to participate, ensuring a wide range of cultural representation.

The event will include the annual Christmas parade organised by the New Malden Rotary Club, a traditional Church Fayre, Santa's grotto, and the Jubilee Square party itself. The party will feature multicultural food stalls, community group and gift stalls, face painting, and a disco.

Many local community groups are expected to participate, including:

  • Kingston Beats
  • The Korean Senior Citizens
  • The Korean Culture and Arts Centre
  • The Korea Town Foundation
  • Aulaw Organic Farm CIC
  • Milaap Multicultural Centre
  • Kingston Environment Centre
  • Connect North Korea
  • MusicalKidz drama and art school

The gift stalls will showcase small local start-ups and hobbyists, who will also provide free activities for children, such as writing letters to Santa, hearing Christmas stories, making gifts, and finding hidden pixie fairy doors.

The Neighbourhood Community Grant is one of three funding sources available to the Neighbourhood Committee to support local voluntary and community activity. The agreed guidelines for the Neighbourhood Community Grants programme are detailed in Annex 1 of the NOM Community Grants Oct 2025 document. To be eligible for a grant, groups must meet minimum standards, including having a written constitution, a management committee with at least three members, and a bank account in the organisation's name.
