Delivery Plan progress against Islington's five missions, Q1 2025/26

The council is one of only two in the country to achieve this standard. The report highlights progress against the five missions outlined in Islington Together 2030 and the Islington Together Delivery Plan 2024-20261.

The Leader's Report 2025 summarised the council's achievements over the past year, with a focus on the five missions outlined in Islington Together 2030 and the Islington Together Delivery Plan 2024-2026. The five missions are:

  • Child-friendly Islington
  • Empowering People
  • A Safe Place to Call Home
  • Community Wealth Building
  • Greener, Healthier Islington

The report also reflected on key challenges and priorities for the coming year, including the cost of living crisis and achieving net zero carbon emissions.

As part of the mission to provide a safe place to call home, the council also:

  • Completed 66 new council homes in 2024/25, with further schemes due to complete this year.
  • Launched the Housing Business Plan, which will see £3.2 billion invested over 30 years in repairing, maintaining and improving our council homes to keep our residents safe and ensure our buildings meet our regulatory responsibilities.
  • Obtained the Stonewall Housing accreditation for our work with the LGBTQ+ tenants. Only two councils in the country obtained this accreditation.
  • Purchased or exchanged on 419 Ex Right to Buy properties to provide urgently needed accommodation locally in Islington.
  • Become a Borough of Sanctuary to help create a culture of welcome, inclusion and empowerment for people seeking sanctuary.
  • Implemented the new structure in Housing Management and Housing Needs. This is to ensure we provide services to our residents as if they were our own family. Tenant satisfaction increased by 2% in the last 12 months.
  • People sleeping on our streets continues to be the lowest in central London and the lowest in the council's history.

The Leader's Report 2025 was presented by Councillor Una O'Halloran, Leader of the Council, and Victoria Lawson, Chief Executive.

A Safe Place to Call Home: Everyone in Islington has a safe, decent and genuinely affordable place to call home.
