Following a fatal shooting in Brixton Hill, residents are seeking reassurance from Lambeth Council. At a council meeting on 15 October 2025, Councillor Verity McGivern asked Councillor Dr Mahamed Hashi, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, what steps were being taken to address residents' concerns following the tragic event. The meeting was held to discuss the Public Reports Pack.
Councillor Hashi outlined several actions taken by the council and its partners in response to the tragic event. He noted that the council acted quickly with partners to provide reassurance and practical support to residents.
These included:
- Attending a police-led drop-in surgery and a public meeting with residents, alongside ward councillors.
- Facilitating follow-up meetings with MTVH and its partners to address resident concerns related to safety, lighting, and estate management.
- Supporting Richard Atkins Primary School through the council's Principal Psychologist to support staff wellbeing and provide guidance on how to communicate with the children following the incident.
- Offering a series of workshops to local school communities through the newly commissioned Empowering Healthy Communities service.
- Coordinating with MTVH, who have offered to deliver trauma-informed training to MTVH's commissioned programmes at the Cube and to Knights Youth Centre.
- Deploying the Health and Wellbeing Bus locally to provide residents with information, signposting and informal support conversations.

Following the tragic fatal shooting in Brixton Hill, the council facilitated follow-up meetings with MTVH and its partners to ensure that resident concerns, particularly those related to safety, lighting, and estate management, were heard and addressed.
The newly commissioned Empowering Healthy Communities service is offering a series of workshops to local school communities.
Councillor Hashi also mentioned that the council is finalising a bid to the Violence Reduction Unit's Critical Incident Fund to provide short-term, trauma-informed interventions for young people, parents, and older residents.
He emphasised the importance of a collective effort, stating, it's not just a council issue, it's not just a police issue, it's a collective issue.
Councillor Hashi invited local residents, neighbours, and community members to join the council in its efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the Brixton Hill community.
