A group advocating for smartphone-free childhoods is seeking the support of Sutton Council to promote their cause.
The Smartphone Free Childhood Group presented their objectives to the Carshalton and Clockhouse Local Committee on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, outlining their aim to encourage parents to delay giving smartphones to their children until the age of 14.
The group emphasised that they are pro-technology
and have already engaged with headteachers and parents. They are planning further discussions with the council to discuss their goals and future strategies.
The presentation was part of a community showcase at the committee meeting, which also included updates from Sutton Housing Partnership and discussions on highways engagement and tennis court usage. The agenda for the meeting is available online. Minutes from the previous meeting on 8 July 2025, can be found here.
