Enfield has made significant progress in its efforts to reduce the number of families placed in temporary accommodation, particularly in bed and breakfast (B&B) establishments. The council aims to eliminate the use of B&Bs for families with children altogether. According to the Q1 2025/26 Performance Report, presented at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 15 October 2025, the number of families with children in B&Bs has fallen dramatically from 162 in Q1 2024/25 to just 5 in Q1 2025/26.

The report anticipates further improvement, projecting a decrease to zero families in B&Bs by September 2025, to be detailed in the Quarter 2 report.

This reduction is attributed to Enfield's strategy to minimise the use of commercial and block-booked hotels for temporary housing, as outlined in the Q1 2025/26 Performance Report. Housing Gateway Limited (HGL) plays a key role in managing temporary accommodation needs, providing services such as temporary accommodation, private rented accommodation, and property acquisitions, according to the Housing Gateway Limited Outturn Report 2024/25.
