Residents in Hackbridge, St Helier and The Wrythe are being encouraged to participate in police ward panels to voice their concerns and collaborate with local law enforcement on neighbourhood solutions. These panels provide a vital platform for residents to raise issues such as the need for a zebra crossing, 20mph zones, problems with the SDEN network, lack of flowers on rails at Middleton Road, and insufficient street cleaning in areas like Newent Close.
During the Hackbridge, St Helier and The Wrythe Local Committee meeting on 16 October 2025, local police officers provided an update that included information about the role of police ward panels and how residents can get involved. The meeting took place at Hill House Community Centre.
Ward panels offer a platform for residents to raise concerns and work together with local police to address issues affecting their neighbourhoods. Residents unable to attend meetings can still submit their questions in advance via an online form.
The police update was part of a broader agenda that included updates from Citizens Advice Sutton and the Sutton Housing Partnership. The agenda also included a community showcase by People Arise Now and the Guiding Crown dance group, as well as a period for public questions.
The minutes from the previous meeting on 17 July 2025, which were approved at the meeting, detailed presentations from the 219 (Sutton & Cheam) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, Radio St Helier, and the Friends of Poulter Park & Revesby Woods. The committee also discussed flood investigation findings related to the River Wandle following a flood event on 23 September 2024, and received a local funding update.
The meeting was chaired by Councillor Patrick Ogbonna, with Councillor Colin Stears as Vice Chair. Other councillors in attendance included Councillor Paul Cole, Councillor Bobby Dean, Councillor Gemma Munday, Councillor Steve Alvarez, Councillor Wendy Clark, Councillor Catherine Gray, Councillor Dave Tchil, and Councillor Sheldon Vestey.
