Lewisham Council has extended its contract with One Health Solutions (OHL) for NHS Health Checks support services for an additional two years. The decision, made at a Mayor and Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, aims to ensure the continuation of this vital service for adults at risk of heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, stroke, and dementia.
Councillor Paul Bell, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care, highlighted the importance of NHS Health Checks as a free statutory service for eligible residents. The extension aligns with the council's broader health and well-being strategy priorities, focusing on delivering value for money, equity of access, and improved outcomes for Lewisham residents.
According to the NHS Health Checks Contract Extension Report, OHL, a federation of 32 GP practices, has been delivering the programme effectively. The contract extension will allow for continued performance, with additional support and training provided to practices that may be struggling with capacity or appointment bookings. The council also noted that there are some variations in service delivery depending on the location within the borough, which are being addressed.

Councillor Bell thanked Michael Keery, Ramneri, and Mia Agnew for their work on the report.
