Barnet Council is set to investigate the source of a foul smell plaguing Edgware town centre, following concerns raised by Councillor Lucy Wakeley at a recent council meeting.
Councillor Alan Schneiderman, Cabinet Member for Environment & Climate Change, has agreed to meet with Councillor Wakeley and the senior drainage engineer to discuss the issue and seek a resolution. The senior drainage engineer is engaging with Thames Water to ensure the problems are fixed.
The issue was raised during a broader discussion of local issues at the Barnet Council meeting on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, which was held at Hendon Town Hall. The meeting covered a range of topics, from tributes to former councillors to debates on high street revitalisation and community safety.
Other topics discussed at the meeting included:
- High street improvements
- Public engagement in major developments
- Support for the Jewish community
- Bus lane changes on Regents Park Road
- Pothole repairs in Child's Hill
- Overparking in Cricklewood
- Plans for a regional park
- Reviewing Capita contracts
