Ealing Council is set to launch a Private Renters Association to support the borough's 15,000 private renting families. The initiative, aiming to launch on 30 October, will provide mutual support and advocacy for renters, addressing issues of insecurity, unaffordable rents, and poor housing conditions.
The decision was reached during the Council meeting on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, where a majority group motion was debated and subsequently resolved. The full details of the motion are available in the Public Reports Pack.
The motion acknowledged that many private renters in Ealing face ongoing challenges. It also highlighted the Labour Government's upcoming Renters' Rights Bill, which will abolish Section 21 'no-fault' evictions, apply the Decent Homes Standard to the private-rented sector, and prohibit discrimination against tenants receiving benefits or with children.
The council also committed to:
- Planning for sufficient capacity to handle increased enforcement responsibilities once the Renters' Rights Bill becomes law.
- Ensuring that private renters in Ealing have access to decent housing and are protected from rogue landlords.
The council will continue to plan for sufficient capacity to avoid delays in enforcement once the Bill becomes law.
The motion stated that a well-functioning private-rental sector will provide security for both tenants and landlords, as well as alleviating homelessness.
