A petition calling for safer pedestrian crossings near Honeywell School in Wandsworth remains active, according to a recent Transport Committee meeting. The Wandsworth Transport Overview and Scrutiny Committee convened on 19 June 2025, to discuss various transport-related issues, including updates on major schemes, the annual review of traffic and engineering petitions, and the Queenstown Road Improvement Scheme.
The meeting, which included Councillor Tony Belton, Councillor Leonie Cooper, and other council members, addressed a range of topics from budget monitoring to corporate plan actions. A key focus was the annual review of traffic and engineering petitions, which included an update on the Honeywell School crossing petition. The petition requests formal crossings on Northcote Road and Webb's Road to improve safety for students.
According to the meeting summary, the petition was pending further investigation at the time of the previous report. A design has now been prepared and road safety audited, with plans to move forward in 2025.
The committee also discussed major schemes such as the Old York Road public realm works, the Burntwood Lane corridor works, and the Queenstown Road corridor works. The Queenstown Road Improvement Scheme, in development since 2019, aims to improve conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users. Proposals for Queenstown Road south of Battersea Park Road include removing the northbound bus lane between Southolm Street and Silverthorne Road and introducing a northbound stepped track cycle lane. The existing wand-segregated southbound cycle lane would be replaced with a stepped track.
Other proposed improvements include feature lighting and art features under the railway bridges, an additional controlled pedestrian crossing near the Queenstown Road Station bus stops south of Ingate Place, and public realm enhancements along the length of Queenstown Road.
