Following a community campaign, the front desk at Lavender Hill Police Station will remain open, Wandsworth Council has confirmed. However, opening hours will be reduced to 12 hours a day during the week and 10 hours at weekends, meaning there will be no walk-in service for residents at night.
The decision was announced during a Council meeting on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, where Councillor Simon Hogg, Leader of the Council, addressed concerns raised about the potential closure.
Councillor Aled Richards-Jones, Leader of the Opposition, acknowledged the importance of keeping the station open but pointed out that the reduced hours represented a manifesto breach from the Mayor of London, who had promised a 24-7 police counter.
Councillor Hogg responded that community safety was a top priority for the administration, and highlighted other measures being taken to improve safety in the borough, including the roll-out of three new CCTV vans and an increase in the number of community safety officers.
He said:
We've been clear from the start that this front desk at Lavender Hill should not close, so I'm delighted to say that it will stay open. This is great news for our residents, so thank you to everyone who's taken part in the campaign, particularly Marsha, our local MP, for stepping in and protected services that are really valued by our residents.
The Lavender Hill Police Station will continue to provide a valuable service to the community, though with reduced hours compared to previous promises.
