A new restaurant in Leytonstone has been granted a premises licence, but with strict conditions attached, following a meeting of the Waltham Forest Licensing Act 2003 Sub-Committee on Thursday, 19 June 2025.
The licence for Tanya Restaurant, located at 624 High Road, Leytonstone, was approved after initial concerns from local councillors, the police, and the Licensing Enforcement Officer were addressed through a series of agreed conditions. Councillor Catherine Deakin chaired the meeting, with Councillor Raja Anwar and Councillor Richard Sweden also in attendance.

Several representations were initially made against the application, citing concerns over public nuisance, crime and disorder, public safety, and the protection of children from harm. Councillor Marie Pye objected to the application on the grounds of public safety and antisocial behaviour, stating the premises are right in the middle of an area of significant antisocial behaviour particularly street drinking and associated violence.
She requested that there are no off sales and that people can only consume alcohol with meals
.
These concerns led to a series of conditions being agreed upon between the applicant, the police, and the licensing team. These included measures such as a CCTV system, no vertical drinking, a Challenge 25 policy, restrictions on the use of outside areas, and the presence of a licensed SIA door supervisor on Friday and Saturday evenings. Sherman Xavier, a Licensing Enforcement Officer at Waltham Forest Council, withdrew his representation after the applicant agreed to additional conditions, including an arrangement with a designated minicab/taxi company and verbal reminders for customers to leave quietly.
The meeting report details the agreed conditions, which aim to address the four licensing objectives outlined in the Licensing Act 2003.
