Croydon Councillor Ria Patel declared a gift of a bracelet with a map of Palestine at a recent Ethics Committee meeting.

The declaration was made as part of a routine update on member gifts and hospitality, as detailed in the Member Gifts and Hospitality Report presented at the meeting on Wednesday, 12 November 2025. The Ethics Committee monitors compliance with the Members' Code of Conduct, which includes declarations of gifts and hospitality. According to the report, Cllr Patel received the bracelet, valued at £2, from a resident on 1 October 2025.

The council's code of conduct requires members to declare gifts and hospitality they have received. Members must register with the Monitoring Officer, within 28 days of receipt, any gift or hospitality with an estimated value of at least £50, or multiple gifts and/or instances of hospitality with a cumulative value of £50 or more when received from a single donor within a rolling twelve-month period.

The Public Reports Pack for the meeting included a list of gifts and hospitality declared by members between 1 June 2025 and 4 November 2025.

Other declarations included Mayor Jason Perry, who declared a VIP guest gift from Purley Mosque, a guest ticket and dinner from Newtons LGC Awards, and lunch from South East London Chamber. Councillor Lynne Hale declared dinner at Gatwick Region Delegation and dinner at Wates Residential, hosted by Tim Wates. Councillor Richard Chatterjee declared hospitality from the Mayor of Arnhem for the Civic Mayor & Civic Mayoress, arising from attendance at Arnhem for the 81st Anniversary Commemorations of Operation Market Garden.
