Enfield Council has announced an indefinite pause to several planned Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) schemes across the borough. The decision was revealed during a meeting on 11 November 2025, where councillors reviewed the progress of various transport initiatives.
The affected CPZ schemes include Edmonton Green North, Elmshurst to Connop Road, Alma Estate, Arnos Grove, Forty Hall, and Palmers Green East. Additionally, the Bowes East Quieter Neighbourhood project was also paused indefinitely in March 2025.
The announcement came as part of a broader update on CPZs, Quieter Neighbourhoods, and School Streets, presented by council officers. Their report outlined the council's data-led approach to identifying and prioritising these schemes, referencing the Transport Strategy published in October 2024.
Despite the pause in these specific projects, the council is moving forward with other traffic schemes. The Sunnyside CPZ in Edmonton Green has progressed to statutory consultation, with revised hours of operation proposed for event and match days. The Claverings Estate CPZ project team is also seeking resident feedback on parking issues around Goodwin Road. Furthermore, the Electric Quarter CPZ has advanced to statutory consultation following resident engagement.
School Street proposals are also progressing, with Firs Farm Primary School & Highfield Primary School moving to statutory consultation. The Enfield County School for Girls School Street proposal has progressed to detailed design.
The Edmonton Green Quieter Neighbourhood project has reached the statutory consultation stage, with the council seeking views on draft Traffic Orders TG52/1590 and TG52/1596. This project includes School Streets outside Fleecefield Primary School and Brettenham Primary Schools, as well as other improvements like carriageway cycleways and expanded 20mph zones, according to the Public Reports Pack.
