Haringey Council is set to launch a public consultation on its draft Homelessness Strategy for 2026-2027, following approval by the cabinet on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.
The strategy, mandated by the Homelessness Act 2002, aims to review and address homelessness within the borough. The Act requires local authorities to carry out a homelessness review and formulate and publish a homelessness strategy informed by that review at least once every five years. The draft strategy, which can be found in Appendix 1 - Haringey Homelessness Strategy 2026-2027 - a draft for consultation, has been developed over a year, incorporating feedback from individuals with lived experiences of homelessness and organisations dedicated to supporting them.

Councillor Sarah Williams, Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, highlighted the importance of updating the strategy to align with the council's functions as a local housing authority. The consultation will allow for further refinement before the final version is adopted in December 2025. The council aims to ensure that the consultation process is accessible and inclusive for all residents, especially those experiencing homelessness, building on engagement with a wide range of stakeholders during the strategy's development.
The cabinet report outlines that the strategy has been developed with considerable engagement from a wide range of stakeholders, including people with lived experience of homelessness and organisations working to support them. The council is legally required to have a homelessness strategy in place, and it requires updating for this purpose.
The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting where other key issues were also addressed, including housing development, school admission arrangements, adult social care, and fire safety.
