Croydon Council is set to translate its Housing Allocation Policy into multiple community languages, ensuring accessibility and transparency for all residents.
The decision follows a recommendation from the Homes Sub-Committee, which met on 29 September 2025. The Sub-Committee's recommendation was presented for approval to the Scrutiny & Overview Committee on 18 November 2025, as detailed in the Scrutiny Recommendations report.
To further improve the service provided by the Homes Directorate, the Sub-Committee recommends the development of a resilience plan to address the high number of sickness absences and promote workforce wellbeing and stability.
The Homes Sub-Committee also recommended that a comprehensive demand and supply analysis of housing in the borough be commissioned or produced. This report should include data on the number of relets from both the Council and housing associations, the volume of new housing developments (particularly those delivered by housing associations), and supply-side pressures such as statutory homelessness and waiting list figures. The Sub-Committee believes this would provide a clearer understanding of the challenges influencing housing allocations and should inform the work of the Council.
The impact on individuals removed from or refused access to the housing register should also be monitored, including any knock-on effects on other Council services such as homelessness applications, and adult and children's social care. Furthermore, the Sub-Committee recommends that the public consultation include a question on preferred enforcement models, specifically whether enforcement should be delivered in-house or through an external provider.
