Kensington and Chelsea schools are projected to see a £1.2 million decrease in their reserves by March 2026, according to a report presented at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Schools' Forum meeting on Monday, 17 November 2025. This decrease is primarily attributed to the academisation of St Thomas More school, according to the Public Reports Pack.
The report highlighted that schools' forecast reports estimate total reserves will fall to £3.656 million by 31 March 2026, down from £4.860 million on 31 March 2025. The DSG Monitoring 2025-26 and Forecast School Balances document provides a detailed forecast of school balances.
To address this projected decrease, a balance control mechanism (BCM) is slated for introduction from the 2026/27 academic year, based on school balances at the end of 2025/26.
The Appendix A Schools Balances and Forecasts provides a detailed breakdown of forecast balances for each school at the end of March 2026, although it does not explicitly identify which schools will be most affected by the decrease. However, the data allows for inferences to be made regarding schools experiencing the largest reductions in their reserves.
