Raynes Park residents have voiced concerns over a proposed development of the Motspur Park Gasholders site, citing potential impacts on local amenities and green spaces. The development, which includes a five-block building with 586 dwellings and only 90 parking spaces, has raised questions about its effect on the surrounding area.

The issue was raised during the Raynes Park Community Forum meeting on 16 October 2025, held at Raynes Park Library. Councillor John Oliver, who chaired the meeting, informed attendees that the planning application for the development had been submitted to both Merton and Kingston Councils, initiating the review process.

Residents at the forum discussed the potential impact of the development on local schools, parking, and public transport. The limited number of parking spaces relative to the number of dwellings has led to concerns about increased street parking in the area. There was also concern over the potential loss of green spaces.

Specifically, residents voiced concern over loss of green spaces due to the development, according to the Minutes of the Raynes Park Community Forum 16 October 2025.

Additionally, the potential strain on local schools due to the influx of new residents was discussed. Councillor Oliver advised residents that representations could be made to both councils regarding the application.

The agenda and minutes from the 16 October meeting are available on the council website: Raynes Park Community Forum 16 October 2025 and Supplementary 5 - Agenda Item 8 Wednesday 19-Nov-2025 19.30 Council.
