Greenwich Council has approved the demolition of the Woolwich Waterfront Leisure Centre to make way for a new residential development. The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting on 19 November 2025, marking a significant shift in the area's landscape.

The council agreed to procure a demolition contractor for the Waterfront Leisure Centre site. Following demolition, a residential development partner will be selected to construct new homes on the site. The council will follow the Procurement Act 2023 to select both the demolition contractor and the residential developer partner.

The Interim Director of Place and Growth has been authorised to manage the procurements and finalise agreements with the chosen contractors. A budget has also been approved to cover the costs of demolition and development, including security for the site while it remains under council ownership.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting where several other key issues were discussed, including the draft local plan consultation and school place planning. The agenda for the meeting outlined the key items for discussion.

The decisions from the meeting confirm that the council will conduct a below threshold works contract procurement to select a demolition contractor. They will also conduct a formal above threshold public works contract procurement to select a residential developer partner.
