Brent Council is exploring the possibility of creating a habitat bank at Neasden Recreation Ground, according to a recent announcement. A feasibility study, funded through Brent's Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL), is currently underway to assess the viability and sustainability of the project at the popular open space.
The scoping exercise includes thorough due diligence and a detailed financial assessment to ensure the project's viability before any formal commitment is made. An update on the scoping exercise is expected in early 2026, according to the Welsh Harp Joint Consultative Committee Public Reports Pack.
The announcement was made during the Welsh Harp Joint Consultative Committee meeting on Monday, 24 November 2025, where updates on the Welsh Harp Management Plan were discussed. The plan is jointly managed by Brent Council, the London Borough of Barnet, and the Canal & River Trust.
Neasden Recreation Ground is located alongside the Welsh Harp Reservoir, which contributes significantly to Brent Council's priority of a cleaner, greener future. The Welsh Harp provides publicly accessible green space, opportunities for water sports, space for recreational exercise, habitats and biodiversity, contributes to flood control, and enhances the surrounding residential, community and commercial neighbourhoods. The Welsh Harp also contributes to strategies including the Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy 2021-23, the Flood Risk Management Strategy, and the Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2022-2027, according to the Welsh Harp Management Plan Update - Brent.
