Islington is bolstering its commitment to reuse and repair initiatives with support for local organisations. Islington Fixers, Archway Upcycle, and ReLondon presented evidence at the Environment, Climate and Transport Scrutiny Committee meeting on 25 November 2025, highlighting their contributions to waste reduction and community engagement.
Islington Fixers, a community group, conducts repair workshops, teaching residents how to mend broken household items, reducing landfill waste and promoting a culture of repair. Archway Upcycle, a social enterprise, collects unwanted furniture and household items, repairs them, and sells them at affordable prices, providing both environmental and social benefits. ReLondon, a partnership of the Mayor of London and the London boroughs, works to improve waste and resource management across the city.
The council's support for these initiatives aligns with its broader efforts to improve household recycling rates and reduce waste. Councillor Ruth Hayes, Chair of Environment, Climate Change and Transport Scrutiny Committee, highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives in achieving these goals.
