Hackney Council is set to debate a Labour motion calling for rent controls in the borough, as the housing crisis continues to impact residents.

The motion, entitled Hackney Needs Rent Controls, is scheduled for discussion at the council meeting on Wednesday, 26 November 2025. Councillors will also consider joint amendments to the motion.

Rent controls are measures that limit the amount landlords can charge for rent. The Labour Party has previously advocated for empowering councils to implement such controls.
