Hackney Council is set to invest in road safety improvements on Green Lanes, following a recent Cabinet meeting. The £0.141m investment is part of the s106 schemes, with a total of £141,000 in capital allocated for 2025/26.
The council has earmarked the funding for the project, which aims to enhance safety for both pedestrians and cyclists at two crossings on Green Lanes: the existing crossing outside the Sainsbury's Local opposite Clissold Park and the existing crossing outside the John Scott Health Centre.
The planned improvements include upgrading these two crossings, with the installation of a parallel crossing outside the Sainsbury's Local opposite Clissold Park. A parallel crossing is designed to give priority to pedestrians and cyclists, allowing them to cross safely without dismounting and encouraging more active travel.
The investment was detailed in the Capital Update and Property Disposals and Acquisitions Report, which was discussed at the Cabinet meeting. The report highlighted the council's commitment to meeting manifesto pledges and delivering against the Council's Strategic Plan. The report also notes s106 schemes outlined in section 11 and summarised, including capital of £141,000 for 2025/26 for Green Lanes Road Safety Improvements.
The meeting, which took place on Monday 15 December 2025, was attended by Mayor Caroline Woodley, Councillor Anntoinette Bramble (Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Young People), Councillor Guy Nicholson (Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Housing Management and Regeneration), and other cabinet members and advisors.
